Solidago altissima Tall Goldenrod - Aster Family Great native grows 2-6ft tall and blooms August thru November. The ones we rescued usually bloom in September.

Habranthus tubispathus Rio Grande Copperlily Perennial - Lily Family This lily requires moister soil than we have here. We planted them in an area where we can monitor them.

Monarda punctata Spotted Beebalm - Mint Family A perennial native horsemint that is perfect for the garden. It will reseed and transplant easily. In our prairie it disappears after bloomingbut returns the following spring. In our garden it waits until the first frost to go dormant.

Asclepias asperula Antelope Horn Milkweed This wonderful milkweed forms clumps 1-2ft tall. They bloom heavily in spring, but sporadically summer thru fall. Great for Monarchs.

Rhodophiala bifida Oxblood Lily - Amaryllis Family From Argentina brought to Texas by German Settlers. Also called School House lily because they bloom in September after a rain.

Eryngium leavenworthii Leavenworth's Eryngo - Carrot Family Very prickly annual also calle Purple Thistle. They start out with a jade like color slowly turing to a royal purple. Stunning plant.

Conoclinium greggii Gregg's Mistflower - Aster Family Perennial grows up to 2ft tall. One of the best pollinator plants we have in Texas & beautiful in the garden. Larval host for the Rawson's Metalmark.

Aster oblongifolium Fall Aster - Aster Family Also called Aromatic Aster is a hardy native aster found on limestone glades, slopes, prairies and dry open ground. Easy to grow and they will naturalize over time.

Lycoris radiata Red Spider Lily - Amaryllis Family Not native to Texas but does well here and will naturalize over time.

Quercus muehlenbergii Chinkapin Oak - Beech Family One of the best native trees for Texas.

Capsicum annuum Chile Tepin - Potato Family Great plant in all settings. This one is a volunteer and still growing strong after 5 years. We leave it alone and only water it if the leaves droop. Beautiful and valuable plant.

Rhus lanceolata Prairie Flameleaf Sumac Sumac Family Beautiful plant for a natural landscape. It will spread by roots quickly in the right setting. Very valuable wildlife plant. Use the link for more informaiton.

Salvia coccinea Scarlet Sage - Mint Family You can't go wrong with this plant. Very easy to grow from seed which will save money to buy more plants.

Ptelea trifoliata Wafer Ash - Rue Family This is a valuable native small tree. Several have popped up around here over the last 2 years. The link provides more information.

Anisacanthus quadrifidus Flame Acanthus - Acanthus Family This is the 2nd year for a 1 gal. plant. I'm glad I gave it room to grow. This one has given us more plants all around the patio. Will readily reseed. Easy to transplant volunteers.

Cornus drummondii Roughleaf Dogwood Dogwood Family This one is wild and growing with live oak, prickly ash (Zanthoxylum americanum) and Skunkbush (Rhus trilobata). The soil limestone gravel with a thin layer of soil.

Callicarpa americana American Beautyberry Verbena Family Gorgeous plant in all seasons. Needs dappled shade and room to grow naturally. This one is 4 years old from a 3 gal pot. They need some attention in the summer.

The grasses around our Harvester ant bed. Every morning after it warms up, they run back and forth gathering seeds.

Artemisia ludoviciana Prairie Sage - Aster Family This plant has many names. It's a fabulous one and very pretty at all stages in its growth. Very easy to spot when it is beginning to grow.
